Description

Join us on February 17th for a virtual talk with Texan fiber artist taylor barnes. She will share her experiences navigating academia, where she was introduced to the personal and oral histories that influenced her artistic practice. barnes will discuss the processes behind choosing her materials, techniques and subject matter, and the significance of quilting and textile art in Black American history. A brief question and answer period will follow barnes’ talk.

taylor barnes received her MFA in Fibers from the University of North Texas. Her work has been featured in solo exhibitions in Austin, Dallas, and Harlem, NY, and group exhibitions in Dallas and Miami, FL. She received the Sylvia Hougland Emerging Artist Award from Make Art with Purpose in 2020, and has given lectures at SMU, TWU, and Haywood Community College (NC). Currently, barnes lives and works in Austin.
