What is POPS?:
The Pre-Optometry Professional Society, better known as "POPS", is a pre-medical organization around the profession of Optometry. The purpose of this organization is to educate students at UTSA about Optometry and inform them about the requirements for admission to this professional program of becoming an Optometrist. The primary goals of POPS is to provide an opportunity for students to explore the field and assist its members in becoming successful and competitive applicants to the Optometry school of their choice. In doing so, this organization will promote opportunities for leadership, friendship, and most of all, passion for the profession.
Why Join POPS?:
As a pre-med student, you are presented with the option of choosing from a plethora of medical professions during your academic studies. Optometry is a profession that is high in demand, high in job satisfaction, high in earning power and has many career opportunities. As an Optometrist, the sky is the limit to what you would like to do with your Doctor of Optometry Degree (OD). You can run your own practice, work for a corporate business, teach at currently one of the twenty-three optometry schools, create the next revolutionary contact lens, and many more. POPS will give you everything you need to successfully understand the field and become an outstanding applicant for the Optometry school of your choice.
